Question:

Last ramadan, someone gave dates as gift for the Masjid. Now there are a lot leftover. Can the people of the Masjid eat from them even if they are not fasting? knowing that the person who gifted it, would not mind that??

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Giving food to a fasting person to break the fast is very rewarding. In the hadith it is stated: “Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”

Anything that is given to the masjid, it is upon the people of the masjid to distribute it as how they want. Likewise the dates that were given is now in the ownership of the masjid. There is no restriction to only those who are fasting. Thus anyone coming to the masjid can partake of it.
