Question:

Salaam,

I am a Madrasah teacher at Faizan-E-Madina, my question is are we allowed to make tea in Faizan-E-Madina if we take our own tea, sugar milk, and also pay towards the electricity for using the kettle while we are on our break?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Allah has stated: O those who believe, do not consume each other’s property by false means unless it is a trade with your mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah has been Very-Merciful to you. (Surah Nisa: 29)

Commenting on the above verse of Surah Nisa Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) has stated: the term false means includes all forms of impermissible methods of attaining the wealth of others such as theft, robbery, usurpation, breach of trust, bribery, interest, gambling and all false transactions.[1]

In regards to your question, in the work environment, there is usually a dedicated area for staff to make tea, coffee, etc. whether it be a staff room or a kitchen. As this is for the staff to use, there will be no harm in using the facilities provided.

If there is no such dedicated area provided for the staff to use, permission should be sought from the employers or those in charge before using them for personal use as this may be considered stealing if the employers do not want the staff to use such facilities.
