Question:

I have a query. There is a charity that takes orphans to umrah. I wanted to ask if Zakah money would be applicable towards this project? I look forward to your reply.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In principle, it is necessary to give zakāh into the ownership of a valid recipient of Zakat. It is not allowed to merely spend Zakat on valid recipients of Zakat, nor spend it on their behalf. (1)

However, if the recipient gives you permission on his behalf to mention that he wants to use that Zakat money for Umrah, then it will be allowed.

Also, keep in mind that the recipient should not be pressured to use the Zakat money according to its Zakat discharger.

Only Allah knows best.
