Question:
Is it permissible to get vaccinated whilst fasting in Ramadhan (e.g. hepatitis A vaccine, COVID-19 vaccine)?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
If the vaccination is administered via injection, it would not invalidate the fast. The fast would only be invalidated if it was taken orally and reached the throat.
Eating, drinking or anything taken for nourishment purposes eg, intravenous drips, will nullify the fast. The vaccination does not fall into the category of eating or drinking hence one’s fast will remain intact.
If one fears that it may have an adverse reaction, cause one to become sick or feel weakened, then it should be delayed until after Ramadaan.
