Question:
Is Ghusl invalid if, during ghusl, one gets aroused while cleaning their private parts with water and they may release Madhi? And is the ghusl valid if, after washing the rest of the body, the private part is covered in water with the hand shower, is that sufficient to say the private parts are washed?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Ghusl is not invalidated when Madhi (pre-cum) is discharged; it only breaks your Wudu. Under the chapter of Ghusl, Radd al-Muhtar mentions:
[Ghusl is] (Not) at the time of (pre-cum [Madhi] or Wadi [discharge]), rather ablution [Wudu] is required for it and for urine together, according to the most apparent opinion.[1]
The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned that only Wudu is required when Madhi is discharged:
I used to get emotional urethral discharge frequently. Being the son-in-law of the Prophet (ﷺ) I requested a man to ask him about it. So the man asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about it. The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, “Perform ablution after washing your organ (penis).”[2]
If you have partially completed your Ghusl and then Madhi is released, since Madhi does not necessitate Ghusl, you would not need to perform Ghusl again from the beginning. Instead, you would need to perform Wudu and then complete the Ghusl from where you left off.
Regarding washing the private parts during Ghusl, it is necessary to ensure that water reaches all external parts of the private area. Simply covering the private part in water with a hand shower might not be sufficient to guarantee that every part has been washed properly. You should make sure to physically wash the area with your hand to ensure complete cleansing.
Only Allah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) knows best.
