Question:
Is it permissible to volunteer at a homeless center that serves hot food which is a mixture of Haram and Halal food?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Allah s.w.t says in the Quran:
Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment.[1]
It is incorrect to facilitate others in committing Haram actions, even if they are Non-Muslim. There is a principle in Islamic jurisprudence that says, “What is Haram to take is Haram to give.”[2, 3] Therefore, it is impermissible to offer Haram food to anyone, even to Non-Muslims.
Fatāwā Hindiyyah mentions:
It is not permissible for anyone to feed a madman carrion (dead meat)[4]
If it is impermissible to give Haram meat to a person who is mentally incapacitated and not accountable on the Day of Judgment, then it would be even more wrong to give Haram meat to Non-Muslims who will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment.
