Question:
Asalam Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
I made a grave mistake of placing clothes that I am sure were impure with najasah into our tumble dryer. I know that these clothes were wet too thus they could have spread impurity. Now I am worried about how to purify the machine.
Initially, I washed the filter, took a damp cloth to clean the inside, poured water over the filter and then ran the machine for one cycle to dry. However, once the cycle ended I noticed that the machine had specks of lint in it. In my panic of not knowing where this lint originated from I just threw a jug of pure water and ran it again to dry, however more lint appeared.
Do you think my efforts have been enough to purify it from najasah or will I have to buy a new drying machine?

Answer:
Wa alaikumus salaam
Taking into consideration of what you mentioned on how you tried to cleanse the tumble, it will be considered clean. You do not have to worry about the lint nor should you replace the dryer.
With a najasah which you cannot see, once you wash it 3 times it will be clean. Therefore you don’t have to worry about the lint. Maybe you should clean your filter from the lint. But you don’t have to worry about the impurity.

أَقُولُ: لَكِنْ قَدْ عَلِمْت أَنَّ الْمُعْتَبَرَ فِي تَطْهِيرِ النَّجَاسَةِ الْمَرْئِيَّةِ زَوَالُ عَيْنِهَا وَلَوْ بِغَسْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَلَوْ فِي إجَّانَةٍ كَمَا مَرَّ، فَلَا يُشْتَرَطُ فِيهَا تَثْلِيثُ غَسْلٍ وَلَا عَصْرٍ، وَأَنَّ الْمُعْتَبَرَ غَلَبَةُ الظَّنِّ فِي تَطْهِيرِ غَيْرِ الْمَرْئِيَّةِ بِلَا عَدَدٍ عَلَى الْمُفْتَى بِهِ أَوْ مَعَ شَرْطِ التَّثْلِيثِ عَلَى مَا مَرَّ، وَلَا شَكَّ أَنَّ الْغَسْلَ بِالْمَاءِ الْجَارِي وَمَا فِي حُكْمِهِ مِنْ الْغَدِيرِ أَوْ الصَّبَّ الْكَثِيرَ الَّذِي يَذْهَبُ بِالنَّجَاسَةِ أَصْلًا وَيَخْلُفُهُ غَيْرُهُ مِرَارًا بِالْجَرَيَانِ أَقْوَى مِنْ الْغَسْلِ فِي الْإِجَّانَةِ الَّتِي عَلَى خِلَافِ الْقِيَاسِ؛ لِأَنَّ النَّجَاسَةَ فِيهَا تُلَاقِي الْمَاءَ وَتَسْرِي مَعَهُ فِي جَمِيعِ أَجْزَاءِ الثَّوْبِ فَيَبْعُدُ كُلَّ الْبُعْدِ التَّسْوِيَةُ بَيْنَهُمَا فِي اشْتِرَاطِ التَّثْلِيثِ، وَلَيْسَ اشْتِرَاطُهُ حُكْمًا تَعَبُّدِيًّا حَتَّى يُلْتَزَمَ وَإِنْ لَمْ يُعْقَلْ مَعْنَاهُ

(قَوْلُهُ: وَغَيْرُهُ بِالْغَسْلِ ثَلَاثًا وَبِالْعَصْرِ فِي كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ) أَيْ غَيْرِ الْمَرْئِيِّ مِنْ النَّجَاسَةِ يَطْهُرُ بِثَلَاثِ غَسَلَاتٍ وَبِالْعَصْرِ فِي كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ؛ لِأَنَّ التَّكْرَارَ لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ لِلِاسْتِخْرَاجِ وَلَا يُقْطَعُ بِزَوَالِهِ فَاعْتُبِرَ غَالِبُ الظَّنِّ كَمَا فِي أَمْرِ الْقِبْلَةِ
