Question:

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah, I have a question. In my area, I have noticed a trend of woollen hats (specifically: beanies) I have seen even non-Muslims wear this attire, is it permissible to wear this type of hat, in the winter season especially or, should we stick to the topic worn by the ulama.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If the woollen hats are worn to keep oneself warm, and not for the purpose of following some fashion fad or trend, then it would be acceptable to wear them.

In general, Muslims should ensure that they display some salient features via which they can be recognized as being part of the Ummah of Nabi Sallalaahu alayhi wasallam , e.g. the beard, Islamic attire etc.

This is so that the Ummah, wherever they may be, can rally together for worship, social upliftment and in the event of emergencies.
