What is the Sunan Method of Ghusl and drinking water?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

One should begin the ghusl by washing both hands up to the wrists. If there are any impurities on the body, one should wash it off. This should be followed by istinja of both front and back private parts. Now perform wudhu as one would normally do for the salah. If taking a bath in a place where the water does not flow away but instead gathers at the feet, delay washing until the end. After the wudhu pour water over the head thrice. Make sure that sufficient water is used (without waste) so that the entire body is completely wet. Rub the body with the hands. If the feet had not been washed, move away from the place and move to a dry spot to wash one’s feet. If the feet however, have been washed at the time of wudu, then there is no need to repeat it. (Nuurul Idhaa p.39)

Sunan of drinking water

  One should not drink with his left hand. (Sahih Muslim)
  One should sit and drink. (Sahih Muslim & Raddul Muhtar)
  Recite Bismillah before drinking and Alhamdullilah afterwards. (Sunan Tirimizi)
  Drink in three sips, separating the glass from the mouth each time. (Sahih Muslim)

To recite this dua after drinking water;

Alhamdu lillahil ladi saqana adhban furatam bi rahmatihi wa lam yajalhu ujajam bidhunubina.

“All praise is due to Allah, who out of his mercy has granted us sweet and pleasant water to drink and did not make it bitter and salty due to our sins.” (Tabarani)
