Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

Can you please explain the qunoot in the fajr as far as how it is done, Also if I am praying behind an imam who does not make dua qunoot am I still needing to do it or how would I handle that situation?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The Ḥanafi madhab does not require a person to read duāʿ al-qunūt in Fajr ṣalah, this is contrary to Imām Shāfiʿī’s opinion. If a person prays behind an imām who is reading duāʿ al-qunūt in Fajr ṣalah, he should just stand with them and remain quiet.[1]
