Question
When Dajjal appears who will come after? Imam Mahdi or Saaiduna Isaa (Alayhis Salam)?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer
Saaiduna Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu reports that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said ‘How will it be with you when Ibn Maryam will descend among you and your Imam at that time is one of you (from your Ummah) (Sahih Bukhari p.490 v.1)
It is narrated by Saaiduna Abdulla Bin Amr Bin Al-Aas Radiallahu Anhu that Isa Ibn Maryam will descend near (Imam) Mahdi and He (Saaiduna Isaa) will follow him in prayer. (Al Hadi p.78 v.2)
Saaiduna Ibn Sireen has said ‘(Imam) Mahdi will be one from this very Ummah and he is the one who will lead Isaa Ibn Maryam in prayer’. (Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaibah)
In a long hadith of Sunan Ibn Majah where the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said ‘Their Imam would be a righteous man. (It will happen one day) their Imam will proceed to lead the congregation of Fajr when Isaa Ibn Maryam will descend among them. So the Imam will step back a little so that he may ask Isaa Alayhi Salam to lead prayers, but Isaa Alayhi Salam will place his hand on his shoulders and say ‘‘Go forward and lead the congregation because the Iqamah is called for you.’’ So their own Imam will lead the Muslims in prayer. When the Imam would have finished the prayer, Saaiduna Isaa Alayhi Salam would say, “Open the door!” The door would be opned and the Dajjal would be standing behind it…’ (Sunun IbnMajah p.298 v.2)
From the foregoing discussion, we can deduce that Imam Mahdi will come before the Dajjal and Saaiduna Isaa Alayhi Salam will descend after the appearance of the Dajjal.
