Question:

A Question related to menstruation.

When determining the end of the period, is each day taken as 24 hrs? Or can the period end in the middle of the day?

For example, A woman started to menstruate at 1:00 PM on Monday. If she doesn’t see any bleeding at 5:00 AM on Friday, can she take a bath and pray?

Or will she wait until 1:00 PM for the 5th day to end and then take a bath?

Fatawa Mahmoodiyah seems to suggest that each day of bleeding is 24 hrs.

Answer:

The end of the period is determined by the stopping of the blood. Thus when the bleeding stops in this case at 5:00 AM she will take a bath and pray.

It is stated in Mukhtasar Al-Quduri “ If the blood of haydh stops in a time of fewer than ten days, it will not be permissible to have relations with her until she has a bath, or the time of a Salah passes”1.
