Question:

A town is busy renovating the Masjid so five times Salah and Jumu’ah occur in an adjacent hall. Will I’tikaaf be valid in the Masjid considering five times Salah isn’t taking place there? There’s no other Masjid in the town.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

I’tikaf is valid in a masjid with an imam and mu’adhin regardless of whether all five prayers and jumuah are performed there.¹ Since the five times salah is not taking place in the masjid only temporarily due to a valid reason I’tikaf would be permissible there and they would be allowed to go to the adjacent hall to perform their 5 times prayer and jumuah.

1 بَابُ الِاعْتِكَافِ وَجْهُ الْمُنَاسَبَةِ لَهُ وَالتَّأْخِيرِ اشْتِرَاطُ الصَّوْمِ فِي بَعْضِهِ وَالطَّلَبُ الْآكَدُ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَخِيرِ.
