Question:
Assalaamualaikum wrwb. I am a young lady whose parents are looking for marriage proposals. I want to say that I recently started having strong desires. Sometimes while reading some topics from Islamic websites (for example: Islamqa) where people ask questions related to intimacy, I get a strong effect on my private part which brings out some discharge that is sticky liquid and white in colour. Is it mani or madhi? Since I am not married, I do not know what feelings occurs during intimacy. The intimacy thoughts (fantasies) are constantly coming in my mind these days and it effects my private part. Is it masturbation? But I do not do anything with my hand or anything else. Only the thought comes and I get some strong feelings on my private part. Also, sometimes it happens that I am just sitting and I get some arousals and strong desires. All of these things have started recently and I am getting worried about it. I take shower because I do not know if it is mani or madhi. Can you please guide me about everything?

Answer:
For women, mani is thin and yellow in colour and comes out with an orgasm or a wet dream – this would require a ghusl. Madhi is the liquid which comes out when aroused – and this only requires wudhu. If women have any other discharge, that will be normal, vaginal discharge which would be pure[1]. That which comes out due to thoughts is not masturbation, but try not to dwell on those thoughts. It is excellent that your family are looking for you. May Allah bless you with a good spouse.

[1] (قَوْلُهُ: بِرُطُوبَةِ الفَرْجِ) أيْ: الدّاخِلِ بِدَلِيلِ قَوْلِهِ أوْلَجَ. وأمّا رُطُوبَةُ الفَرْجِ الخارِجِ فَطاهِرَةٌ اتِّفاقًا اهـ ح. وفِي مِنهاجِ الإمامِ النَّوَوِيِّ رُطُوبَةُ الفَرْجِ لَيْسَتْ بِنَجِسَةٍ فِي الأصَحِّ. قالَ ابْنُ حَجَرٍ فِي شَرْحِهِ: وهِيَ ماءٌ أبْيَضُ مُتَرَدِّدٌ بَيْنَ المَذْيِ والعَرَقِ يَخْرُجُ مِن باطِنِ الفَرْجِ الَّذِي لا يَجِبُ غَسْلُهُ، بِخِلافِ ما يَخْرُجُ مِمّا يَجِبُ غَسْلُهُ فَإنَّهُ طاهِرٌ قَطْعًا، ومِن وراءِ باطِنِ الفَرْجِ فَإنَّهُ نَجِسٌ قَطْعًا كَكُلِّ خارِجٍ مِن الباطِنِ كالماءِ الخارِجِ مَعَ الوَلَدِ أوْ قُبَيْلَهُ. اهـ. وسَنَذْكُرُ فِي آخِرِ بابِ الِاسْتِنْجاءِ أنَّ رُطُوبَةَ الوَلَدِ طاهِرَةٌ وكَذا السَّخْلَةُ والبَيْضَةُ.
