Question:
Would it be permissible for an architect to draw a plan for a church?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Allah SWT mentions:
“Aid you not one another in sin and transgression, but help one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, justice, and piety”). [Surah Ma’idah verse 2]
Building a church or any other place of worship that is not based on Islam, is not permitted for a Muslim who believes in Allah and the Last Day. And also the religion practised in it is against the Islam that our beloved prophet (SAW) mentioned because doing so can be (even if one says indirectly) a way to support kufr – disbelief (worshipping trinity etc.) and manifest its works/actions and symbols.
In such situations, one should avoid planning and drawing out plans and leave them to Christians/non-Muslims etc.
Only Allah knows best.
