It is not a charity rather it is a type of loan. Zakat cannot be given as a loan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Secondly, according to Quran, there are eight categories of people who are eligible for Zakat:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The poor (Faqir who has very little wealth below Nisab)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Destitute (Miskin who has no wealth)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Those who are to be reconciled<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Those who collect Zakat<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Emancipation of slaves<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">For those in debt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">For those in the way of Allah<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">For the travelers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">(See Surah at-Tawbah verse 60)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If you are referring to helping people who in debt exceeding the Nisab threshold, then this is permissible as it falls under the fifth category.
