Salam – question, in Islam, does a daughter need to carry her father’s name?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Normally, a daughter or son will carry the name of the father. No person should be attributed to being someone else\u2019s daughter or son.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All\u0101h says in the Quran:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCall them (adopted sons) by (the names of) their fathers, that is more just with Allah. But if you know not their father’s (names, call them) your brothers in faith and Mawalikum (your freed slaves). And there is no sin on you if you make a mistake therein, except in regard to what your hearts deliberately intend. And Allah is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful.\u201d (S\u016brah al-Ahzab:5)<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Qur\u2019an when All\u0101h mentions the mother of Isa he says:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Maryam (Mary), the daughter of ‘Imran who guarded her chastity…\u201d(<\/strong>S\u016brah al-Tahrim:12)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She is attributed to her father and not her mother. There is sometimes an exception to this like with Isa who was created by All\u0101h without a father.<\/span><\/p>\n
