 <\/p>\n

I missed one rakaat in congregation salaah. While completing my salaah I did two rakats instead of one. Do I need to do my salaah again?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Also if this happens again and I realise it while still being in salaah (i.e in the 2nd rakaat). What should I do?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A person who has joined the congregational prayer late is termed a \u2018Masbuq and after the Imam concludes his salah they must make up the rakats they have missed. Whilst making up these missed rakats if the \u2018Masbuq makes any mistake requiring a Sajdah Sahw, they must perform the Sajdah Sahw (prostrations of forgetfulness).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore, if a \u2018Masbuq added an extra rakat to their prayer they must do Sajdah Sahw, and if they do not, they must repeat the prayer as they have omitted a Wajib act.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If instead of sitting for their final Tashahhud, they stand up for another rakat then they can return to the sitting position as long as they have not done Sajdah for that extra rakat. They may sit down and continue the Tashahhud as normal and then do the prostrations of forgetfulness at the end of the salah for delaying a Wajib act.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If however, they had done the Sajdah for the extra rakat then the Fardh salah becomes invalid and transforms into a Nafl salah to which they can add one more rakat to make it an even number of rak\u2019aat. Then they must pray their Fardh salah again.<\/span><\/p>\n
