And for <strong>those whose hearts will be brought together (to be converted to Islam)<\/strong> and for <strong>slaves<\/strong> and for <strong>those in debt<\/strong> and for <strong>(those) on the Way of Allah<\/strong> and for the <strong>travellers<\/strong> &#8211; an obligation by Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. [Surah Tawbah verse 90]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Zakaah is to be given to the eight categories in the verse highlighted in bold. From what is written in the question, you want to know if the brother may fall into the category of Fuqara\u2019 or Masaakeen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The first and second are the fuqara\u2019 and masaakeen (the poor and needy). They should be given zakaah to meet their needs. [Qamus Alfaadh al Islaami page 313 Al Yamaamah Publications]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">These people are the most in need and zakaah should be given to them more often as they are dependent on a large amount of money\/wealth etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Masaakeen \u2013 the definition of this term is:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u0623\u062b\u0628\u062a \u062d\u0627\u0644\u0627 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0641\u0642\u0631\u0627\u0621 \u060c \u0644\u0623\u0646\u0647\u0645 \u064a\u062c\u062f\u0648\u0646 \u0646\u0635\u0641 \u0645\u0627 \u064a\u0643\u0641\u0626\u0647\u0645 \u0623\u0648 \u0623\u0643\u062b\u0631.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201c(These people) are better off than the fuqaraa\u2019, as they can find half of what will suffice them for half of the year or more.\u201d [Qamus Alfaadh al Islaami page 313 Al Yamaamah Publications]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">These people should be given zakaah because of their needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">With regards to giving zakaah to relatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Giving zakah to relatives who are entitled to it is better than giving it to those who are not your relatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Our beloved Prophet (SAW) has mentioned:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u0627\u0644\u0635\u0651\u064e\u062f\u064e\u0642\u064e\u0629\u064f \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0645\u0650\u0633\u0652\u0643\u0650\u064a\u0646\u0650 \u0635\u064e\u062f\u064e\u0642\u064e\u0629\u064c \u0648\u064e\u0647\u0650\u064a\u064e \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0649 \u0630\u0650\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0650\u0645\u0650 \u062b\u0650\u0646\u0652\u062a\u064e\u0627\u0646\u0650 \u0635\u064e\u062f\u064e\u0642\u064e\u0629\u064c \u0648\u064e\u0635\u0650\u0644\u064e\u0629\u064c<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cCharity given to a poor person is charity, but charity given to a relative is two things, charity and upholding the ties of kinship.\u201d\u00a0[Tirmidhi Hadeeth no: 658]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">But if these relatives are among those on whom you are obliged to spend, but you give them your zakaah so that you can save money, then that is not permissible.
