Here in South Africa, a certain Jamiat had engaged in an interfaith prayer with different faiths for the violence. Are such interfaith prayers and gatherings allowed?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><u>In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><u>Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">There are principles of Islamic jurisprudence that state:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Adhruraat Tubeehul Mahduraat<\/em> (necessities justify that which may be unlawful)<a href=\"#sdfootnote1sym\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Al-Umur bi-maqasidiha<\/em> (Matters shall be judged by their objectives)<a href=\"#sdfootnote2sym\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If we analyze the interfaith prayer In light of these principles of Islamic Jurisprudence we can conclude it is allowed for the following reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">There was an immediate necessity for all faith leaders to come together and make a joint statement to end the violence. Since this was a necessity, it is allowed based on the first principle.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Such an occasion is a means of Dawah.
