Later I asked him, &#8220;So are we married now?&#8221; He said &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, are we? You didn&#8217;t respond to me earlier. Actually no we have always been married, just not to each other but to our kids.&#8221; Does any of this constitute a divorce?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><u><strong>In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><u><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">As Muslims, we must understand that Talaq (divorce) are not things to be taken lightly when considering doing it, and we must understand its seriousness of it. Talaaq (divorce), is the same whether the words are uttered in earnest or in jest. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Our beloved Prophet SAW said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u062b\u0644\u0627\u062b \u062c\u062f\u0647\u0646 \u062c\u062f \u0648\u0647\u0632\u0644\u0647\u0646 \u062c\u062f: \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0643\u0627\u062d \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0637\u0644\u0627\u0642 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0631\u062c\u0639\u0629<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;Three are serious when they are serious, and serious when they are in jest (joke): Marriage, divorce, and taking back (one\u2019s wife).&#8221; [Abu Dawud Hadeeth number: 2194\/ Tirmidhi Hadeeth no: 1184]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Now the scenario you have mentioned above is an exclusive scenario (in jest) which doesn\u2019t really happen. It doesn\u2019t show any sort of \u201cdivorce\u201d per se but rather just playing around. Maybe you have taken it a certain way but as a matter of fact, it isn\u2019t serious as the intention of saying such a thing has no connection to divorce.
