Is there anything detailed written on cutting hair and nails before Qurbani and preferably discussions on other schools as well?<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Sunnah of not cutting the hair or nails for the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah comes from the following Hadith:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Umm Salama (RA), the wife of Allah’s Messenger \ufdfa<\/strong>, reported Allah’s Messenger \ufdfa to have said: \u201cHe who has a sacrificial animal with him whom (he intends) to offer as sacrifice, and he enters the month of Dhu’I-Hijja, he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed until he has sacrificed the animal.\u201d (Sahih Muslim, 1977).<\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly, it was narrated in Abu Dawood:<\/span><\/p>\n

Umm Salamah (RA) narrated: \u201cThe Prophet \ufdfa<\/strong> as saying: If anyone has sacrificial animal and intends to sacrifice it, and he sights the new moon of Dhul-Hajjah, he must not take any of his hair and nails until he sacrifices.\u201d (Sunan Abu Dawood, 2791)<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Shaf\u2019ee Madhab, there are two opinions regarding removing the hair and nails: one that it is Haram and another that it is Makruh Tanzeehi (Sharhun-Nawawi Ala Muslim, Pg 1257).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Multiple opinions are narrated by Imam Malik, including the opinion that it is Makruh, and the opinion that it is not Makruh (Sharhun-Nawawi Ala Muslim, Pg 1257).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Imam Abu Hanifah, it is not Makruh to cut the nails or remove hair (Sharhun-Nawawi Ala Muslim, Pg 1257; Fathul Mulhim, Vol 9, Pg 486).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The reason why Muslims should refrain from cutting their hair and nails could be to that ensure that all parts of the body are present to be saved from the Hellfire. It has also been narrated that the reason is to resemble the Haajis (Sharhun-Nawawi Ala Muslim, Pg 1257; Fathul Mulhim, Vol 9, Pg 486).<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, Muslims who intend to do Qurbani should refrain from clipping their nails and trimming their hair until the sacrifice is slaughtered, to act upon Hadith above. However, it is not compulsory to do so, according to the Hanafi Madhab.<\/span><\/p>\n
