I was carried away by these appraisals and started fasting in the month of Ramadan for more appraisals. In the end, I realize that this was Shirk. Now, I repented by doing the Salaat-ut-Tawbah. But after, my repentance, will my good deeds, from pre-Shirk-committing remain, or will they be gone?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><u>In the name of <em>All<\/em><\/u><\/strong><strong><em><u>\u0101<\/u><\/em><\/strong><strong><em><u>h<\/u><\/em><\/strong><strong><u>, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><u>Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Shirk<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Shirk is to associate partners with <em>All\u0101h Ta\u2019\u0101l\u0101<\/em>, either in His being or through His attributes. To do an act of shirk is a testament to one going out of the fold of <em>Isl\u0101m<\/em>, nullifying our good deeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201c<em>All\u0101h<\/em> has promised those of you who believe and do good deeds that He will certainly make them (His) vicegerents in the land, as He made those before them, and will certainly establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them, and will certainly give them peace in place of fear in which they were before; (provided that) they worship Me, ascribing no partner to Me. And those who turn infidel after that are the transgressors.\u201d [<em>S\u016brah an-N\u016br; 24:55<\/em>] [1]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Taubah<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Only through sincere repentance and <em>Taubah<\/em> can one truly atone for their sins. Sincere <em>Taubah<\/em> wipes away our sins making us free from them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">There are three conditions for repenting;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Stop committing the sin;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Feel remorse for the sin which has been committed;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Make a sincere vow to never return back to sin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">This is the method of doing <em>Taubah<\/em>. <em>Taubah<\/em> does not require any action to be attributed to it, like the performing of 2 <em>Rak\u2019at Salah<\/em>. It is a spiritual connection between the servant and his Lord where we are able to convey our remorse and vow to never return back to sin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><em>Riy<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u0101\u2019 <\/em><\/strong><strong>(Showing Off)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Doing actions to show off to others and to receive praise nullifies the rewards of our good actions. The Prophet \ufdfa has prohibited this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">It was narrated from <em>&#8216;Amr bin Shu&#8217;aib<\/em>, from his father, that his grandfather said: \u201cEat, give charity and clothe yourselves, without being extravagant, and without showing off.\u201d [<em>Sunan an-Na<\/em><em>s<\/em><em>\u0101\u2019\u012b: Hadith 2559<\/em>] [2]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">We worship <em>All\u0101h Ta\u2019\u0101l\u0101<\/em> to attain His pleasure. This should be our sole purpose in worshipping Him. Whenever we start any form of worship, we should renew our intentions as to why we are doing said action and what is our overall goal. If one does this, then <em>In Sh\u0101 All\u0101h<\/em> he should be able to prevent himself from doing actions for the wrong reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">From what you have stated, it does not appear that your actions have taken you out of <em>Isl\u0101m.<\/em> They were wrong and nullified the rewards of those actions. But, as you did not associate any partners with <em>All\u0101h Ta\u2019\u0101l\u0101,<\/em> you have not done anything to take you out of the fold of <em>Isl\u0101m.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;
