If the wife holds the husband’s finger and moves his finger or hand up and down her private parts, will that be considered masturbation?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the name of All<\/em><\/u><\/strong>\u0101<\/u><\/em><\/strong>h<\/u><\/em><\/strong>, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There is nothing wrong with touching, stroking, and fondling the genitals of one’s spouse. In fact, as part of foreplay, it is encouraged to stroke and play with each other’s private parts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The wife may stroke her husband’s penis, while the husband may fondle her vagina. It is an effective means of preparing one’s spouse for sexual intercourse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In this regard, it is important to stimulate the woman’s clitoris, a small sensitive, and erectile part of the female genitals at the front of the vagina, as this will result in a more profound sexual response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It is stated in Al-Fat\u0101w\u0101 al-Hindiyah<\/em>, a renowned Hanafi Fiqh<\/em> reference work, that Im\u0101m Abu Yusuf<\/em> said: “I asked Im\u0101m Abu Hanifa<\/em> regarding a man who strokes his wife’s vagina and she strokes his penis in order that he gets an erection, do you see any wrong in that?” He replied: “No, rather I am confident that one will be rewarded for doing so.” [Al-Fat\u0101w\u0101 al-Hindiyah: vol. 5, pg. 328<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n

The same has been recorded by Im\u0101m Khatib al-Shirbini<\/em> of the Shafi’\u012b<\/em>\u00a0 School in his Mughni al-Muht\u0101j.<\/em> [Vol. 3, pg. 181<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Moreover, it is permissible for the husband to use his hands and fingers to make his wife reach orgasm, and likewise the wife to use her hands to masturbate her husband. It is particularly encouraged for the husband to practice this on his wife since women take longer to reach an orgasm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The renowned Hanafi<\/em> jurist, Im\u0101m Ibn ‘Abidin<\/em>, clearly states the permissibility of mutual masturbation between spouses in his Radd al-Muht\u0101r<\/em>. He states quoting Mi’r\u0101j al-Dir\u0101ya<\/em>: “And it is permitted to masturbate with the hand of one’s wife.” [Radd al-Muht\u0101r: vol. 2, pg. 399<\/em>]\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Im\u0101m Ibn ‘Abidin<\/em> details the difference between this and masturbating with one’s own hand, which is clearly forbidden. In the former case, one is satisfying oneself with that which is permissible to gain satisfaction from, namely a part of one’s spouse, and one is entitled to seek sexual satisfaction from her entire body, whereas in the latter case, one is not. He notes that the prohibition of masturbating with one’s own hand likewise applies to masturbating with one’s own thighs, a wall, or any other object. [Ibid<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n

In the chapter pertaining to legal punishments (kit\u0101b al-Hud\u016bd<\/em>), the author of the original work Al-Durr al-Mukht\u0101r<\/em> states: “If a man allows his wife to stroke his penis and he ejaculates, it is disliked but there is nothing on him.”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Commenting on this, Im\u0101m Ibn ‘Abid\u012bn<\/em>, explains that dislike here means “slightly disliked (kar\u0101ha tanz\u012bh<\/em>)” without it being sinful, and then refers to what he discussed earlier in the chapter on fasting that it is permitted to masturbate with the hand of one’s wife. [Radd al-Muht\u0101r: vol 4, pg. 27<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on this reasoning and the explicit text mentioned above concerning the permissibility of a man masturbating with his wife’s hand, it can be concluded that the reverse is also permissible, namely the wife masturbating with the husband’s hand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Im\u0101m Ghaz\u0101li<\/em> of the Shafi’\u012b<\/em>\u00a0 School also permits the husband being masturbated with his wife’s hands. [See: lth\u0101f al-S\u0101d\u0101t al-Muttaqin bi Sharh Ihy\u0101 ‘Ulum al-Din: vol 6, pg. 179<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n
