If a person has a trade good which partly consists of gold\/silver, then I know that he pays zakat on the gold\/silver contents – but does he also pay anything on the remainder of the good (given the intention of mal al-tijara)?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For example, if a person has a sword for sale worth 1,000 pounds and it has \u062d\u0644\u064a\u0629 of gold worth 100 pounds, does he only pay zakat on the gold (i.e. 2.5 pounds) or does he also pay anything on the remainder of the item? For example, would he consider that the sword with the \u062d\u0644\u064a\u0629 removed would be worth say 500 pounds and pay zakat on that?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I think this question also would be relevant for traders of collector coins that have some gold contents and for trades of dresses that include some gold thread.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Zakaat is Waajib on trade goods when they reach the gold or silver Nisaab (Fatawa Hindiyya, Vol 1, Pg 197). Zakat is also paid on gold and silver regardless of its purpose (Badai Al Sanai, Vol 2, Pg 417)<\/span><\/p>\n

The price of the trade goods can be merged with the value of the gold and Zakat will be calculated based on whether it reaches the Nisaab (Badai Al Sanai, Vol 2, Pg 429)<\/span><\/p>\n
