According to the 24:31 verse of the Quran, women are permitted to show their charms to the male dependents who lack. Kindly explain who are the male dependents who lack sexual desire. Very aged servants?<\/span><\/p>\n

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Qur\u2019anic Ayah you are referring to is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their \u02f9hidden\u02fa adornments except to their husbands, their fathers, their fathers-in-law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers, their brothers\u2019 sons or sisters\u2019 sons, their fellow women, that \u02f9bondwomen\u02fa in their possession, male attendants with no desire, or children who are still unaware of women\u2019s nakedness. Let them not stomp their feet, drawing attention to their hidden adornments. Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may be successful.\u201d (24:31) (1)<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n

There is a difference of opinion regarding who exactly is considered to be \u2018male attendants with no desire,\u2019 with some scholars opining that it refers to eunuchs, hermaphrodites, or effeminate men (Tafsir Qurtubi, Vol 15, Pg 221-222) (2)<\/sup>. It may also refer to the elders who lower their gaze in the presence of women (Tafsir Kabir, Vol 23, Pg 209). (3)<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n

All of the opinions are similar and can be summarized as follows: it refers to men who do not have an understanding of, and do not pay attention to the matter of women (Tafsir Qurtubi, Vol 15, Pg 221-222) (4)<\/sup>; and men who do not have sexual desires (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Vol 6, Pg 48).
