I have read that one needs to have complete ownership of wealth for one to be liable for giving Zak\u0101t. If a b\u0101ligh<\/em> [adult] child cannot access funds until he\/ she is 18, does he\/ she need to pay zak\u0101t for those funds in the bank?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If not, do the parents need to pay or nobody is liable? Upon acquiring those funds after turning 18, does the individual in question need to pay for previous years?<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Funds owned by an adult [b\u0101ligh<\/em>] person that are not accessible are still liable for zak\u0101h<\/em>, however, one has the option to discharge zak\u0101h<\/em> when it becomes obligatory at the conclusion of one\u2019s ni<\/em>\u1e63<\/em>\u0101b<\/em> year annually, or when one obtains access to one\u2019s funds. Yes, one will also be mandated to pay for previous years for which zak\u0101h<\/em> was not paid due to the funds being inaccessible. –<\/em> (See: Rad Al-Mu\u1e25t\u0101r, Vol 2, Page 305, D\u0101r Al-Fikr1<\/sup>)<\/span><\/p>\n
