Is 9th zill hijjja fast mustahab or sunna<\/span><\/p>\n

In the name of <\/strong><\/u>All<\/strong><\/u><\/em>\u0101<\/strong><\/u><\/em>h<\/strong><\/u><\/em>, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It should be clarified that both are Sunnah<\/em>. Mustahab<\/em> actions are those actions which the Prophet \ufdfa performed intermittently. Whereas, what we generally understand Sunnah<\/em> to be, are those actions which the Prophet \ufdfa did more frequently and missed out less (i.e., without a pressing need). However, both are Sunnah<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cFast the Day of Arafah<\/em>, indeed I anticipate that All\u0101h<\/em> will forgive (the sins) of the year after it, and the year before it.\u201d [Sunan at-Tirmizi: Hadith 749; Sunan Ibn Majah: Hadith 1730, 1731<\/em>] [1]<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Prophet \ufdfa would fast on the day of Arafah<\/em>. This was His habit and His Sunnah. <\/em>However, the only occasion recorded of Him not fasting on the day of Arafah<\/em> was during His Hajj<\/em>. [Sunan Ibn M\u0101jah: Hadith 1732<\/em>] [2]<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Even then, many Sahabah RA<\/em> thought that He was also fasting that day as well until a bowl of milk was given to Him, which He \ufdfa drank. The reason for their doubt was that it was the regular habit of the Prophet \ufdfa to fast on the day of Arafah<\/em>. [Sahih al-Bukh\u0101ri: Hadith 1989<\/em>] [3]<\/span><\/p>\n
