If there is a locality which has 2 mosques in it and some of the people of that locality sit in one of the mosques for itikaaf but no one sits in the other mosque. will they still be sinful?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the name of <\/strong><\/u>All<\/strong><\/u><\/em>\u0101<\/strong><\/u><\/em>h<\/strong><\/u><\/em>, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All\u0101h Ta\u2019\u0101l\u0101<\/em> has made the performing of I\u2019tik\u0101f<\/em> compulsory upon the Ummah<\/em>. As long as a few individuals from every locality perform it, the mandate will be considered fulfilled for that locality. However, if no one in a locality performs I\u2019tik\u0101f<\/em> then the entire locality will be held accountable and stand sinful.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The conditions for its fulfilment are that it is completed in the final ten days of Ramadh\u0101n<\/em> while in the state of fasting. [Radd ul-Muht\u0101r: vol. 3, pg. 428<\/em>] [1]<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The performance of I\u2019tik<\/em>\u0101f <\/em>is not mandatory in every Masjid<\/em>. Ideally, it should be done in the J\u0101mi\u2019 Masjid<\/em> (i.e., the largest Masjid<\/em> in the locality). This would suffice the obligation of I\u2019tik\u0101f <\/em>in that locality.
