 <\/p>\n

Me and my friends were in a quarrel about whether reciting the Quran during periods was permissible.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I was taught that one cannot recite the Quran by touching it or by memory but can recite it if it was like a dua or recite it broken up e.g., word by word whilst on the period.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, they were taught that it is permissible to recite the Quran from memory or by reading it off the phone in full verses but not by touching the Quran book. I therefore explained that periods are when a person is in an impure state and the Quran book was just of means of reading from it and the actual Quran is the words of Allah as it is not tangible and how the Quran in the prophet’s time was memorized from one another and there was not an actual physical copy at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it permissible to read full verses on a phone when a person is not touching the Quran but from a phone whilst on their period?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Generally, reciting the Quran during menstruation regardless of whether done while touching the Mushaf or not isn’t permissible if done to gain rewards for the recitation of the Quran. If done to recite a dua like reciting the three Quls or Ayat al Kursi, it will be permissible to do so. If one has to recite for some reason, they can break it up and recite as you mentioned.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, some scholars make an exception for those ladies who are memorizing the Quran and permit them to recite during their menstruation due to necessity. If a woman who is memorizing the Quran doesn’t recite or review her memorization for a week or more (depending on how long her cycle lasts), there’s a very high chance of her forgetting her hifdh or it becoming weak in her memory. Therefore an exception is made for her to review her Quran or continue with her memorization.<\/span><\/p>\n
