What\u2019s the ruling on Injected medications?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We have 3 general types –<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Subcutaneous – injected just under the skin- not intended to enter blood stream<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Intramuscular – into muscle – slowly diffuse into blood stream and around cells.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Intravascular – immediately into vein\/artery.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    For medications that are non-nutritional – are these permissible for a fasting person?<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Answer<\/u><\/strong>:<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Taking the injection during the day in Ramadan for a fasting person has two cases:<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    The first: that these injections are nourishing, such that they replace the need for food and drink. These injections break the fast because they mean eating and drinking.<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Second: It should not be nutritious, as this does not break the fast and does not affect the fast. There is no difference between these injections being intravenous or intramuscular[1]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Therapeutic injections percutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous, with the exception of fluids and nutritional injections.[2]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Any injections that are intended for food, these break the fast because they are in the sense of food and drink.[3]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Injections that are intended for medicine, not for nutrient, do not break the fast whether they are intravenous, intramuscular or anal.[4]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
