I’ve got a question. E.g Ibrahim bought a car on 0% interest finance. He was told at the time the price of the car was \u00a335k. So he agreed to buy the car.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Whilst the deal was going on, he was told that as he was buying the car on 0% interest, the price would be \u00a340k at the end of the finance contract in total (\u00a311.5k deposit, \u00a3300\/month for 49 months, then balloon payment at the end of the contract \u00a314k = \u00a340k). When he looked at the physical copy of the contract, it showed the EXTRA \u00a35K is VAT.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scheme appears to be a hire purchase arrangement, which is not Shariah compliant for the following reasons:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1. There are two parallel transactions involved: one for hire and one for purchase.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2. Both contracts are interdependent and cannot be separated or independently executed.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited from two transactions within one transaction.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Prophet (\ufdfa) said: If anyone makes two transactions combined in one bargain, he should have the lesser of the two or it will involve usury.\u201d [Abu Dawood 3461]<\/span><\/p>\n
