{"id":3278,"date":"2011-09-03T11:54:08","date_gmt":"2011-09-03T11:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daruliftabirmingham.co.uk\/wp\/?p=3278"},"modified":"2011-09-03T11:54:08","modified_gmt":"2011-09-03T11:54:08","slug":"kissing-hands-or-feet-of-pious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daruliftabirmingham.co.uk\/home\/kissing-hands-or-feet-of-pious\/","title":{"rendered":"Kissing hands or feet of pious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kissing Hands or Feet of Pious<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Answer <\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To kiss the hands or forehead of the pious or the scholars is permissible.\u00a0 Some scholars are of the view that it is mustuhub.\u00a0 (Mazahirul Haqq p.368 v.5 &amp; Aapke Masaail p.258 v.7)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are numerous narrations of the Companions kissing the hands of the elders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tamim Ibn Salama relates with a chain of trustworthy narrators that Abu Ubayda Ibn al-Jarrah Radiallahu Anhu kissed Saaiduna Umar Radiallahu Anhu\u2019s hand when the latter came to Damascus, after which they both began to weep.\u00a0 Tamin said \u201cTherefore they considered that kissing the hand is Sunna\u201d and in another version \u201ckissing the hand is sunna\u201d and in another \u201ckissing is sunna\u201d.\u00a0 (Mussanaf Ibn Abi Shaybah)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Imam Bukhari\u00a0 in his Adab al-Mufrad and Imam Ahmad in his Musnad narrate that Thabit al-Bunani the Tabi\u2019i would come to Saaiduna Anas Radiallahu Anhu and kiss his hand because it has touched the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Saaiduna Aaishah Radiallahu Anha narrates \u201cZaid bin Harithah came to the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam when he was in my house.\u00a0 Zaid knocked at the door.\u00a0 The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam rose to receive him, trailing his garment. \u00a0He embraced and kissed him\u201d.\u00a0 (Sunan Tirmizi p.102 v.2)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With regards to kissing the feet, as long as it is done to someone pious due to his piety or to seek blessings from him then it will be permissible.\u00a0 (Nuzhatul Muttaqeen p.661 v.1)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Safwan bin Assal Radiallahu Anhu reports a Jew asked his companion to take him to the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam.\u00a0 When they came to the Prophet of Allah they asked him about the nine clear signs (given to Saaiduna Musa Alayhis Salam).\u00a0 Safwan narrated the long hadith, which concludes: They kissed the hands and feet of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam and said, \u201cWe testify that you are a Prophet\u201d.\u00a0 (Sunan Tirmizi p.102 v.2)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, care should be taken that it is not done in a bowing or in a prostrating manner.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said \u201cIt is not permissible for one human to prostrate in front of another\u201d.\u00a0 (Sunan Tirmizi)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Saaiduna Anas Radiallahu Anhu narrates that a man asked: \u201cO Prophet of Allah! When a man meets a brother or friend, should he bow to him?
