Allah says in the Qur\u2019an: \u201cDo not go near adultery. It is truly a shameful deed and an evil way\u201d (17:32). This verse reminds us to avoid actions that can lead to sin, such as developing an excessive attachment or infatuation with someone who may not strengthen our faith.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Here are a few steps you can take to protect both yourself and your faith:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>Lowering the Gaze:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The first step is to follow the Qur&#8217;anic instruction to lower your gaze. Allah says: \u201cTell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do\u201d (24:30). Constantly staring at someone or daydreaming about them only intensifies the infatuation. Controlling your gaze is a useful way to help reduce emotional attachment to this person.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>Prioritising<\/b><\/span><b style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u00a0Your Deen:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> When considering someone for marriage, the Prophet (peace be upon him) advised that we should prioritise religious commitment. He said: \u201cA woman is married for four things: her wealth, her family status, her beauty, and her religion. So, you should marry the religious woman, otherwise, you will be a loser\u201d (Sahih al-Bukhari 5090). If you find that this person may not be compatible with you in terms of deen, it is wise to avoid developing romantic inclinations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>Seeking Allah\u2019s Help:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It&#8217;s important to sincerely ask Allah for help in overcoming these feelings that you are experiencing. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us to turn to Allah in difficult situations. Regularly make du\u2019a, asking Allah to cleanse your heart of desires that may lead you away from Him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>Engaging in Beneficial Actions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Infatuation tends to grow when we have too much free time. Staying occupied with beneficial activities such as reading Qur&#8217;an or increasing your dhikr. Keeping your mind occupied with positive actions such as these will help control your thoughts away from unproductive daydreams.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Turning toward Allah and focusing on your deen will help you manage these emotions.
