The sutrah of the Imam is sufficient for the Muqtadi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a built-up Masjid, the front wall will serve as the Sutra of the Imam.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1) Does this mean you can only cross in front of the Muqtadi beyond the position of the sutra, or can you cross behind the Imam or even between the rows as well?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2) Can you cross immediately in front of a Masbooq since the Sutra of the Imam covers him as well?<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Imam of a congregation will be the sutrah for the musallis. Wherever the imam faces, the people following him will directly use him as a sutrah, so any passersby will not be able to pass in between the imam and the muqtadee or else that would result in the prayer being affected, and crossing the boundary of sutrah. You can not cross behind the imam as the musallis will be behind the imam, directly following him. If you were to cross the line then it would result in their prayers being affected, and the person who is crossing would be deemed sinful and worthy of punishment. If you are not crossing in front of the musalli or breaking apart the line which they have formed together, such as if there is a partition by a wall, then you may cross between the rows. If this affects the formation of the lines or disrupts the procession of prayer, then this will be sinful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
