The family decided to cremate. He has asked his friends for help to raise funds for the cremation and burial, and they\u2019re asking if it\u2019s permissible for them to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">I presume this is a straightforward ruling in that it\u2019s haram to raise funds for something that is haram, but I was wondering if anybody knew of dispensations or had advice on how to deal with this sensitive situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">From the inception of creation, the system that Allah has put in place when a person passes away is burial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Allah mentions in the Quran about the incident of the sons of Adam AS and when one killed the other. Allah sent a crow to show him what he must do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Allah says (Surah Maidah, Ayah 31):<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cThen, Allah sent a crow who was scratching the earth to show him how he should hide the corpse of his brother. He said, \u2018Alas! Was I not even able to be like this crow so that I could hide the corpse of my brother?\u2019 So, he stood regretful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Just as the human body should be honoured when alive, it should also be sanctified when dead. Thus, cremation is prohibited in Islam, and supporting this practice is also forbidden. This is against the dignity of the deceased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In the hadith, it is mentioned that harming a deceased person is like causing harm to a living person:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cBreaking a dead man\u2019s bone is like breaking it when he is alive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Hence, it will not be permissible for a Muslim to raise funds to cremate the body of a person, nor should they assist in such an event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If the person is able to convince the family of the proper way of burial, then this would be ideal.
