I had a question about using detergent-mixed water to clean najasah. I\u2019ve heard that as long as the water still cleans effectively, it can be used for purification, but I was wondering if there is any textual evidence from the Qur\u2019an or Hadith that supports this.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is this ruling based on a specific hadith or scholarly consensus, or is it more of an ijtihad-based opinion?<\/span><\/p>\n

What we find in classical Hanafi Fiqh books is that if cleaning agents such as soap and saffron mix with water, the water will remain pure as the purpose of the water is to clean and the water can still be used to clean.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Purification is permitted with water in which something pure is mixed and [which] has changed [only] one of its properties, like floodwater and water in which saltwort, soap and saffron are mixed. (Quduri)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Other scholars have given different opinions, like Imam Shafi\u2019i who was of the opinion that water alone can only be used to clean impurities. However, according to the Ahnaaf (Hanafi school of thought), water with detergents mixed in can be used to clean impurities.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are countless Ahadith on the topic of purification and the properties of water. The jurists of the past have deliberated and discussed them at length and extracted such rulings.<\/span><\/p>\n
