I know according to our madhab, not fasting during the day of travel is contingent on starting the journey before Fajr. I just wanted clarification if that meant leaving home before Fajr or leaving the city before Fajr?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I need to fly to Vancouver tomorrow and my flight is at 6.15 am from Ottawa, Insha Allah. I need to leave home around 4.45 am and Fajr comes in shortly after 5 am.<\/p>\n

Answer:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A traveler is from amongst those individuals who are excused from fasting\u2014they have been given the choice to either fast on the day(s) of travel or forgo them and make them up later.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to the Hanafi madhab, not fasting during the day of travel is contingent upon starting the journey as well as leaving the vicinity of one’s city before Fajr sets in.[1]<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hence, in this situation you would need to keep the fast of that day due to not being considered a traveller.<\/p>\n
