I am a soccer referee. I officiate games for boys and girls ages 6-19. The girls’ awrahs are normally uncovered as they normally wear a short-sleeved shirt and shorts. The boys’ awrahs aren’t as big of an issue but their shorts are usually a few inches above the knee. While refereeing, I will have to look at these players’ awrahs in order to officiate the game. I wanted to know if looking at these players’ awrahs would make the money I earn from this job haram, and if the ruling is different for boys and girls and for older and younger players.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being cautious of one\u2019s income is of paramount importance. Earning a halal income is compulsory as are the five daily salawat. To deem whether an income is halal or haram we look at the exchange. For example, money earned in exchange for a haram item such as alcohol will be considered haram gains. In your case, the money gained is in exchange for officiating a sports game, ensuring that the rules are upheld and to address any issues which arise. Income from such a role will not be considered Haram.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, please know that it is a responsibility of a Muslim to avoid sin where they can. Therefore, it is necessary for you to search for other suitable, achievable roles, which safeguard you from sin.<\/span><\/p>\n
