Anyone came across of Fatwa of Jawaaz of the mother giving Adhan to a new born if no males are available? Mahmoodiyah has that it is impermissible if she is in Nifaas.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Answer: <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If there are no males present to perform the Adhan, then a woman may perform it. (1<\/a><\/u>)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Women are not obligated to give the adhan call to prayer or the Iqamah (second call) according to the consensus of the scholars.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ibn Qudamah said: ‘I do not know of any difference of opinion on this.’ So if a woman wishes to give the adhan for herself or for a group of women with her, it is permissible, but she should not raise her voice beyond what she and her female companions can hear. However, it is not legislated for her to give the adhan to call people to congregational prayer, by consensus of the scholars. Their opinions on this range between prohibition and dislike (makruh).<\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Kasani (Hanafi scholar) said: ‘It is disliked for a woman to give the adhan by agreement of the narrations, because if she raises her voice, she commits a sin, and if she lowers it, she abandons the Sunnah of raising the voice.’<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As for the Malikis, the author of Mawahib al-Jalil quoted the author of al-Tiraz as saying that the apparent view of the school is that it is disliked for a woman to give the adhan. He also quoted the author of al-Qawanin as saying that it is forbidden for women to give the adhan, and Ibn Farhun said that the adhan is prohibited for them. In al-Fawakih al-Dawani it says: ‘Her giving the adhan in the presence of men is haram (prohibited), though some say it is makruh (disliked).’<\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Shafi’i said in al-Umm: ‘A woman does not give the adhan, and if she gives it for men, their adhan is not valid.’\u00a0 (2)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In al-Mughni it is stated: ‘A woman\u2019s adhan is not counted, because she is not among those for whom the adhan is legislated.’ <\/span>The correct view among the scholars is that it is haram for a woman to give the adhan for men, because this is an innovation not known among the early generations (salaf), and because of the potential for fitnah (temptation). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘I have not left behind me any fitnah more harmful to men than women.’ (Agreed upon)<\/span><\/p>\n

The scholars have differed on whether a woman\u2019s adhan, if given in the same manner as a man\u2019s, is valid or not. There are two opinions:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1.The first view: It is not valid. This is the position of the majority \u2014 the Malikis, Shafi’is, and Hanbalis. Al-Kharshi said in Sharh Mukhtasar Khalil: ‘It is not valid from a woman,’ and something similar is mentioned in al-Fawakih al-Dawani. In al-Majmu’ it says: ‘If she gave the adhan for men, her adhan is not counted.’ And in al-Insaf: ‘A woman\u2019s adhan is not counted.’<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2.The second view: Her adhan is valid but disliked. This is the view of the Hanafis. In al-Mabsut it is stated: ‘Al-Kasani said: If she gave the adhan for the people, it suffices them, and it does not need to be repeated, since the purpose of the adhan \u2014 which is to notify \u2014 has been achieved.’ This is also the view of some Hanbalis, as mentioned in al-Furu’, and is a possible view in the Shafi’i school, as stated in al-Majmu’, and some Malikis, as mentioned earlier in al-Fawakih al-Dawani. According to the Hanafis, if a woman gives the adhan, it is recommended to repeat it.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The sound and correct view that should not be departed from is that of the majority: women should not give the adhan for men, because this is an innovation, and was not done by the salaf. Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance leads to the Fire. Also, the mu\u2019adhin (one who gives the adhan) is recommended to make himself publicly known, ascend a high place, and raise his voice \u2014 all of which are prohibited for women due to the risk of fitnah for both themselves and men. That is why the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘Saying SubhanAllah is for men, and clapping is for women.’ (Agreed upon). Women have been commanded to remain in their homes.<\/span><\/p>\n
