Question:

I am getting very confused with my menstrual cycle and what is haidh and what is not. My menstrual cycle is not always at the same time of the month. I get mostly clear, white and yellow discharge on days that are not haidh.  Do I count the yellow discharge I get after the days of haidh as haidh?

Also sometimes I get a bit of spots of blood in my discharge in one namaaz time and then not the next. What do I do in this circumstance?

Answer:

Bismillah

Generally speaking yellow is considered to be a colour of haidh (See Hidayah p.63 v.1), so therefore, it will only be considered as haidh if:

  1. The bleeding is for three days or more.
  2. The bleeding occurred 15 days after your last haidh because the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said, “Two menstruations cannot occur within fifteen days of each other.” (Sunan Baihaqi)

Therefore, if the yellow discharge occurred less than 15 days before the ending of your last period, it would not be considered as haidh.

Finally, regarding the spots of blood you see in some prayers. If the bleeding continues up to three days then it will be considered as haidh, which will prevent you from Salah and fasting, otherwise it will be considered as Istihadaah, which will require you to pray Salah and fast.
