Question:

If a person purchased a car before their zakat date, meaning the contracts were signed and transactions were done, however, the money was to be taken from his account and the car was to be delivered after his zakat date, is he allowed to minus the cost of the vehicle from his zakatable assets?

Answer:

One of the conditions that must be met for Zakat is that the money must be your property (Badai Al Sanai, Vol 2, Pg 397). As the payment for the car is now owed to the seller of the vehicle, it can be deducted from the Zakatable assets.
