Question:

If a cosmetic brand hires me to demonstrate using their products for a short video and pays me for this promotional content that will then be used in their campaigns, is this lawful? If I demonstrate their products on a model instead of myself is it permissible?

Answer:

In The Name Of Allah, The Most-Merciful, The Most Kind

It is lawful to demonstrate the use of a product in a short video as long as the Islamic guidelines of dress are properly observed. If you are required to uncover part of your ‘awrah [that which must be covered in public] then it would be allowed for you to demonstrate that product on an artificial model instead.

For example, if you were required to apply lotion to your forearm, that would not be permissible, since that is part of a woman’s ‘awrah. However, if there was an artificial model or an artificial arm, you could apply the lotion to that for the purposes of demonstration.
