CategoriesSalaah [869]
Can i also ask what suras do you read for certain salahs and what do you read before surah fathiha and also in the 3rd rakat do you just read surah fathiha?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

It is sunnah to recite Thana which begins with “Subhanaka Allahuma Wa Bihamdika….” until the end then you should recite Auzu Billah Himinash Shaitanir Rajeem and Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim before you start Surah Fatiha.  (Nurul Idah p.130)

There are no specific surahs one has to read for each salah. As long as one recites the minimum recitation, the salah will be valid. The minimum recitation, which suffices in salah, according to Imam Abu Hanifah (RA), is that which is covered by the word “Qur’an.” (i.e. one verse) and Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad have said : No less than three short verses or one long verse is sufficient. (Mukhtasar Quduuri p.22)

It is preferable to recite for the Fajr and Zuhr salah from the lengthy part of the mufassal section which begins from Surah Hujurat to Surah Buruuj and for the Asr and Isha salah from Surah Buruuj to Surah Bayyinah known as the medium part of the mufassal and finally for the Maghrib salah to recite from the smallest part of the mufassal from Surah Bayyinah until Surah Naas. (Nurul Idah p.131)

With regards to recitation in the third and fourth rakaat of the fardh salah is that one has the choice if one wishes, he can recite, if he wishes he can make tasbih, and if he wishes he can remain silent. (Hidayah p.148 v.1)
