Question:

Asalamualaikum, I have missed several years of obligatory fasts and now due to a stomach problem I am unable to fast. I tried but I finally develop hyperacidity and immense pain. What is that I can do? Is there any alternative way to fill in those missed fasts?

 Answer:

Bismillah

If a person is seriously ill, the Shariah permits such a person not to fast however; he will need to do qadha of the fast afterwards. He will not be allowed to give fidayh. (Ahsanul Fatawa p.432 v.4)

However, if a person is ill and the illness is such that there is no hope of ever getting better then such a person will give fidyah. (Ahsanul Fatawa p.432 v.4)

Therefore, regarding your question, if the illness is such where it prevents you from fasting and the illness will remain for ever, then in that situation you will give fidyah for the qadha fasts.

Finally, you can give the fidyah according to the rate of this country or to the country you are sending the fidyah to. If you are planning to give the recipients of the fidyah money, then the amount of sadqah fitr will be given for each fast. However, if you are planning to feed the poor then you will need to feed them two meals a day. (Mazahirul Haqq p.21 v.2)
