Are there certain days where we cant cut our nails

CategoriesTaharah [480]

I heard that we are not allowed to or at least it is not preferable to cut nails during night and at certain days of week. Is it true? If so, what if we do so? Do we get sin?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

It is desirable that the nails are cut on the Friday. It is considered to be one of the etiquettes of Jummah. Imam Tabraani narrates from Saaidua Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alai Wasalam would cut his nails and trim his moustache before he would go to the Masjid for Salah.

Shaikh Molana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA) has written in his book “Masails of the Hair”

“Amongst the masses it is popularly believed that finger-nails should not be pared on Saturdays and Sundays. It is mentioned in Gharaib: – “Paring of nails should not be delayed.” It is permissible to clip on any day of the week.”

The conclusion we can come to is that you can cut your nails whenever during the day and night and also on whichever day you wish.
