A father purchases some gold as a wedding gift for his daughter. The wedding was postponed; hence the gold is still with the father. The gold has not been in possession for a year. However, his zakat due date was the 1st of Ramadan, does the father pay the zakat on the gold?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Zakat is obligatory on the wealth which remains in a person’s possession for a lunar year. As the gold is still in your possession, you have to give zakat when the year passes on it (1).
Radul Mukhtar Kitabu Zakat Vol 3, Page 508 -209, Maktabat ul Waheediya:- when the whole (year) passes on the wealth and the wealth is in your possession then zakat is obligatory
