Does touching ones private part invalidate the wudhu?

CategoriesTaharah [479]

I read that if you touch the private parts you should make wudhu. In a book I read that it is the opinion of some scholars that washing the hands is sufficient. Is this the opinion in the hanafi school. Once I touched my back above the private but below the navel and prayed so would I have to repeat that salah?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

In the Hanafi Fiqh touching the private parts in any way, does not invalidate the wudhu. This ruling applies regardless of whether the touch is over a cloth, bare handed, with the palm, or with the outer hand. (Fatawa Hindiyyah p.18 v.1)
