Question:

Assalamualaikum

I need to ask about my baby name he is 1 month old, his name is Muhammad Hashir, someone said its heavy name,& that i should change it so I Want to know about that.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Both Muhammad and al-Hashir are names of our noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This has been recorded in the Hadith.

Narrated Jubair bin Mut`im:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "I have five names: I am Muhammad and Ahmad; I am Al-Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate infidelity; I am Al-Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected, the people being resurrected there after; and I am also Al-`Aqib.

 (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Number 3532)

When naming a child we have been advised to give preference to names of the prophets and the sahabah. Furthermore the Prophet (pbuh) has given permission to name a child be his name in the following hadith.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Name yourselves with my name (i.e. use my name) but do not name yourselves with my Kunya name (i.e. Abul Qasim)."

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith Number 110)

Therefore, there is no problem in you naming your child with the mentioned name from an Islamic perspective.

May Allah (swt) allow your child to follow in the example of his namesake. Ameen.

Only Allah knows best
