Question:

 

Is the mucus on a dog’s nose treated the same as its saliva?

 

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

Answer:

 

Jurists have stated that the leftover water and sweat of a dog are impure because they are produced by the flesh of the animal.

 

Similarly, the mucus on a dog’s nose, produced by the vomeronasal organ, is considered impure based on the ruling regarding sweat.

 

However, a person is not deemed impure unless the impurity is clearly visible.

 

 

«المحيط البرهاني» (1/ 130):

(فصل في) بيان حكم عرق الحيوانات ولعابها

ذكر الكرخي والطحاوي رحمهما الله في «مختصريهما» أن ‌عرق ‌كل ‌شيء مثل سؤره في النجاسة والطهارة والحرمة والكراهة

 

 

«الهداية في شرح بداية المبتدي» (1/ 25):

«‌‌فصل في الأسآر وغيرها

” وعرق كل شيء معتبر بسؤره ” لأنهما ‌يتولدان ‌من ‌لحمه فأخذ أحدهما حكم صاحبه»

 

 

«نور الإيضاح ونجاة الأرواح في الفقه الحنفي» (ص15):

«2 – والثاني: نجس لا يجوز استعماله وهو ما شرب منه الكلب أو الخنزير أو شيء من سباع البهائم كالفهد والذئب»

 

 

«الفتاوى العالمكيرية = الفتاوى الهندية» (1/ 48):

«الْكَلْبُ إذَا أَخَذَ عُضْوَ إنْسَانٍ أَوْ ثَوْبَهُ لَا يَتَنَجَّسُ مَا لَمْ يَظْهَرْ فِيهِ أَثَرُ الْبَلَلِ رَاضِيًا كَانَ أَوْ غَضْبَانَ. كَذَا فِي مُنْيَةِ الْمُصَلِّي قَالَ فِي الصَّيْرَفِيَّةِ هُوَ الْمُخْتَارُ. كَذَا فِي شَرْحِهَا لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَلَبِيِّ»
